Kaduna State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Uba Sani, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will retain strong support in the Northern part of the country come 2027.
Sani maintained that despite the prevailing economic hardships, the ruling party’s leadership in the North remains confident that the President retains a solid base of support for the upcoming election.
Addressing concerns over worsening economic hardship in an interview on Channels TV, monitored by Persecondnews on Monday evening, Sani acknowledged the impact of fuel subsidy removal and rising living costs.
He said members of the Progressives Governors Forum remain firmly aligned with the administration’s reform agenda despite prevailing economic hardship.
He argued that opposition figures have not been able to present Nigerians with clear or credible alternatives in key sectors of the economy.
“They’ll vote for him because most of those opposing the President have not presented any clear alternative policies in education, healthcare, or agriculture,” he said.
The governor also accused some political actors of inconsistent positioning, saying many of them were previously aligned within the same political space.
“Some of them have become latter day activists. Some of them have become pro-democracy activists overnight,” he stated.
Sani maintained that voters in rural communities are more concerned about performance history and credibility than political messaging or criticism.
The governor also pointed to fiscal challenges inherited by his administration, noting that debt obligations from previous years continue to affect governance decisions at the state level.
According to him, his government has avoided fresh borrowing and is instead focused on managing inherited liabilities and maintaining fiscal discipline.
“We believe we do not have fiscal space to borrow any more money,” he said.
Sani added that members of the Progressives Governors Forum will continue to support federal economic reforms, stressing that while the policies may be painful in the short term, they are aimed at long-term economic recovery and national stability.
