I’m Taking Activism Into Politics, Vows Aisha Yesufu

Aisha Yesufu has declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate seat, citing a need to bridge the gap between social activism and governance.

In a Thursday interview with Channels TV monitored by Persecondnews, the activist-turned-politician stated that her platform is built on transparency and ideological consistency.

She further noted that her candidacy is closely aligned with her principal’s vision, reflecting a commitment to a unified political front.

“My principal had moved and I’m one person who keeps my word. I had given him my word that definitely wherever he is, I will be there with him.

“He represents the hope Nigerians are looking for, we have to do the needful to ensure Nigeria experiences good governance, accountability and transparency,” she said.

Responding to criticisms about political defections and instability within the opposition, Yesufu said her transition is a deliberate move from activism into formal politics, not abandonment of advocacy.

“I am not leaving activism or advocacy. I am taking activism into politics. That is where real representation and accountability should happen, especially in the National Assembly,” she stated.

On her legislative priorities for the FCT, Yesufu outlined a series of proposed bills aimed at security, education, infrastructure and accountability.

“We will have an Abuja residents’ security bill, an Abuja education bill, an infrastructure bill, and an FCT accountability bill to ensure transparency in governance and better service delivery,” she said.

Yesufu while stating her political stance and readiness, said she’s ready to confront power structures in the FCT.

“There is no monopoly to anyhowness, and we will go down together. I am ready to go down for my ambition.”

She also stressed her commitment to electoral integrity, insisting she would not engage in malpractice or political manipulation.

“One thing I will tell you is that I will not do anything illegal. I am not going to steal anybody’s vote or manipulate the process. If I win, it will be because people voted for me,” she said.

Emphasizing the independence of the electorate, Yesufu maintained that FCT residents remain decisive and resistant to political imposition.

She clarified that her tenure would prioritize legislative progress over administrative confrontation, seeking to improve governance through policy rather than conflict.
