Wike Dares PDP Faction to Launch Parallel Secretariat, Bank Account

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has issued a blunt challenge to rival factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling for an end to “public deception.”
He dared his opponents to validate their claims to leadership by taking the practical steps of opening a formal party bank account and establishing a functional national secretariat.
This latest ultimatum intensifies the friction between the Wike-aligned camp and the faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The standoff reached a breaking point after the Wike-backed group denounced a recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as “unauthorized” and rejected the appointment of a caretaker committee led by Tanimu Turaki.
The faction insisted no valid NEC session was ever held and reaffirmed that Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remain the party’s recognised officials.

The row deepened following the Supreme Court’s April 30 ruling that nullified the Makinde-backed PDP convention in Ibadan which had produced the Turaki-led structure.

During a live media briefing session in Abuja on Wednesday monitored by Persecondnews, Wike accused certain party figures of deliberately misleading Nigerians about who truly controls the PDP despite clear court rulings.

He argued the rival camp has no legal authority whatsoever to run party affairs.

“You cannot continue to deceive Nigerians. If they are sure they are the authentic leadership of the PDP, let them open an official PDP account and tell party members to pay nomination fees into it,” Wike said.

He singled out Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and others in the opposing group, challenging them to prove their confidence publicly.

“Let Turaki, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, open an account for the PDP. Let them announce it publicly for members who want to contest elections. That day, you will see what will happen,” he stated.

Wike questioned how any bank could possibly open such an account without the party’s authentic documents and court-recognised leadership, warning that the move would expose the rivals’ weakness.

“That bank will be in trouble because to open such an account, you must provide the party’s authentic documents and recognised leadership. Who has those documents?” he queried.

He also warned against any attempt to set up parallel PDP offices in Abuja.

“If anybody goes ahead to open an illegal office in the name of the PDP in Abuja, I will seal it. I will not allow any breach of peace because my duty is to maintain law and order in the Federal Capital Territory,” the former Rivers governor declared.

Wike dismissed claims that the Supreme Court ruling favoured the rival faction, insisting all available legal decisions support the recognised leadership.

He said attempts to reinterpret the judgments were simply designed to confuse party members and the public.
