Chief Peter Ameh, Ex Presidential Candidate and former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has resigned his membership of the Labour Party.

In a resignation letter sent to Persecondnews, dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman, Labour Party, Ogugu Ward 1, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ameh said his decision followed careful reflection and was taken in the overriding interest of national progress and democratic stability.

He said his alliance with the party was rooted in its social democratic ideals and strengthened by his relationship with the late former National Chairman of the party.

“My association with the Labour Party was rooted in belief in its social democratic ideals. It was further strengthened by the enduring friendship and solidarity of my late brother, the former National Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam (A.A. Salam). I remain deeply honoured to have walked part of this journey in his memory,” he stated.

Ameh, a former National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), said his commitment to Nigeria’s multi party democratic system remains firm, adding that he would continue to support its sustainability and survival.

He said his decision was influenced by what he described as lack of trust and respect for agreements in the party.

“My decision is not borne out of anger or personal interest, but from my conviction that political institutions must be built on trust, respect for agreements, institutional integrity and that our words, both in private and public, must reflect our actions and decisions,” he said.

Ameh appreciated the leadership and members of the Labour Party for their support during his time in the party, noting that he was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to shared democratic aspirations.

He also wished the party’s National Working Committee and members nationwide success in their future engagements and continued efforts toward national development.

Persecondnews reports his resignation comes amid a fresh wave of defections within the country’s political space.
