A Norwegian court has imposed a six-month prison sentence on Molde midfielder Daniel Daga after convicting him of performing a sexual act without the necessary consent from the other individual involved.

The decision was issued on Tuesday afternoon by the Nordmore og Romsdal District Court, according to local television network TV2.

In addition to the jail term, the player has been directed to settle legal fees of NOK 10,000 – an amount that translates to roughly ₦1.45 million.

Daga’s defence counsel, Astrid Bolstad, continues to assert his innocence and maintains that the entire situation unfolded with full agreement from both parties.

“He is terribly sorry that the verdict was the way it was. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent,” Astrid Bolstad told TV 2.

Bolstad has confirmed that the legal team will immediately challenge the outcome.

“He will appeal the verdict. The verdict is not final. He will be treated like everyone else until he is sentenced,” she added.

Reacting swiftly to the court’s decision, Molde Football Club stated they have reviewed the ruling and confirmed that Daga will be left out of all match-day squads with immediate effect pending further developments.

The Nigerian talent moved to the Norwegian side in January 2025 after a stint with Enyimba FC.

In his time at the club, he has featured in seventeen matches for the five-time Eliteserien champions and found the net on three occasions.

Daga also turned out for Nigeria during the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup tournaments.
