The Nigeria Police Council (NPC) on Monday unanimously ratified Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.

This official endorsement clears the path for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to formally swear him in this Wednesday, March 4.

The ceremony is slated to take place during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House.

Presided over by President Tinubu, the high-level Council session included Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, fulfilling all constitutional requirements for the appointment.

Also present were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Esther Didi Walson-Jack.

Persecondnews had reported that President Tinubu appointed Disu following the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Governors and senior officials at the meeting spoke in support of the appointment.

Disu’s home state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commended Disu’s track record, particularly his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos between 2015 and 2021, when the unit earned recognition for its crime control efforts.

On his part, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State described the appointment as a reflection of Disu’s strong career record, while Wike lauded the new police chief’s professionalism and operational competence.
