Commercial vehicle drivers, tricycle riders and motorcycle taxi operators on Saturday brazenly defied the movement restriction imposed ahead of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, turning major roads into busy transit corridors despite the directive by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and security agencies.

Observations by Per Second News in Mpape community, Bwari Area Council, showed transport workers running full operations throughout the morning, freely conveying passengers across neighbourhoods in clear disregard of the poll-day travel ban.

As early as 8:10 a.m., election materials were delivered to Akimi Palace in Katampe 1, while the road leading to the Local Government Area Primary School polling unit in the same area teemed with commercial motorcycles shuttling commuters.

Security operatives were the only officials present at the scene at the time, with staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission yet to arrive.

By 8:26 a.m., only a handful of voters had turned up at the polling centre, alongside party agents monitoring proceedings.

One of the early voters, Kunya Patrick, who arrived around 8:00 a.m., praised the professionalism of electoral officials and noted that the process had so far remained peaceful, with no reported violence.
