Women Affairs Minister Lauds Oluremi Tinubu’s Leadership Award as a Win for Nigerian Women

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim has congratulated First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on being named the 2025 “Leadership Person of the Year” by Leadership Newspaper.

In a statement released in Abuja, the Minister described the award as a well-deserved tribute to the First Lady’s lifelong commitment to compassion and transformational leadership.

The Minister noted that this recognition reflects an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians, with a particular focus on empowering women, children, and vulnerable groups.

She added that the honour underscores the significant national impact of the First Lady’s humanitarian advocacy and intervention programmes..

“Under the visionary leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Renewed Hope Agenda continues to place people at the centre of governance,” she stated.

“In alignment with this national vision, Her Excellency’s advocacy for women’s economic empowerment and family stability reinforces the critical truth that when women thrive, families prosper and nations progress.”

The minister said the First Lady has brought to the Office a clear vision anchored on compassion, inclusion and sustainable empowerment, strengthening national attention on issues affecting women and families and ensuring social development remains central to growth in Nigeria.

Highlighting key initiatives, she praised the impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative, noting that it has supported women entrepreneurs, expanded social welfare interventions, broadened access to education and youth development programmes, and strengthened healthcare and wellbeing efforts nationwide.

“Her Excellency continues to exemplify purposeful leadership. She has advanced initiatives that uplift women, empower youth, strengthen families, and restore hope to vulnerable communities across our nation.”

She further observed that beyond programmes and outreach, the First Lady has redefined the role through what she described as quiet strength, moral clarity and purposeful engagement, consistently championing unity, compassion and service while bridging social and cultural divides.

“Her leadership reflects empathy in action and influence guided by integrity,” the statement read.

“We commend her compassionate leadership and her unwavering dedication to the advancement of Nigerian women, the protection of children, the strengthening of families, and the building of a more inclusive and prosperous nation.”

Describing the recognition as timely and richly deserved, the minister said it celebrates enduring contributions to humanitarian service, social transformation and national development, adding that the declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Family underscores government commitment to strengthening family values and social cohesion.

“Your Excellency, your service continues to uplift lives, inspire hope, and shape a lasting legacy of impact,” she added. “This prestigious honour is a testament to your tireless dedication and enduring contributions to Nigeria’s progress.”

The ministry reaffirmed its support for the First Lady’s initiatives and pledged continued collaboration in advancing programmes that empower women, protect children, strengthen families and promote inclusive national development.
