Citing jurisdictional boundaries, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has stepped down from the probe into a viral social media video alleging sexual assault.

Investigation revealed the incident occurred in Ogun State, prompting the agency to hand the case over to the appropriate authorities in the state.

Perseconenews had reported that the Lagos DSVA had in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed it was tracking the case and has already initiated contact through various digital channels to provide immediate assistance to the alleged victim.

In an update issued on February 18, the agency disclosed that it had successfully established contact through a close friend of the young lady and confirmed she had been discharged from the hospital.

It added that all relevant information gathered had been forwarded to appropriate authorities to ensure continuity of the investigation.

According to the agency, Ogun State Police Command has now commenced a formal investigation into the matter.

The development follows public concern generated by the viral video, which prompted the agency to initially seek information to locate and support the survivor.

Pledging its support to the ongoing probe, the Lagos DSVA stated it is working closely with the new lead investigators to ensure justice is served.

The case surged into the public eye following a viral TikTok testimony by a survivor named Mirabel, who alleged she was assaulted in her home on February 15.

The video’s rapid circulation across social platforms triggered a wave of public support and urgent calls for the authorities to take action.
