Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dissolved the State Executive Council, directing all commissioners and special advisers to vacate their offices with immediate effect.

In a statement released Thursday by the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the Governor instructed all affected officials to hand over operations to their respective permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their ministries.

While Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet for their service and wished them success in future endeavors, the timing of the move has sparked significant speculation.

The sweeping overhaul comes just 48 hours after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike hinted at renewed reconciliation efforts to end the protracted political crisis gripping the state.

Wike revealed that President Bola Tinubu convened a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa with key stakeholders from the state, including Fubara and his predecessor, in a renewed bid to douse tensions triggered by the protracted power struggle.

The political shift follows a third impeachment notice served to Fubara by the Wike-aligned legislative faction, a process now entangled in court battles. During a Tuesday project tour in Abuja,

Wike disclosed that President Tinubu personally initiated a reconciliation meeting held on February 9.
Hoping this marks the “final chapter” of the state’s political turmoil,

Wike called on state lawmakers to comply with the President’s directives.

He added that he remains confident the Governor will also fulfill the terms of the agreement to ensure lasting peace.
