No fewer than 2,000 police personnel have been deployed to places of worship and other public locations across the FCT ahead of the Yuletide celebrations.
Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye gave the order in a statement on Thursday by the command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, Dantawaye.
She said 2,202 police officers have been deployed across the territory in line with the 2025 festive season operational order to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
According to her, police personnel have been stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks and other public spaces.
She added that the deployments are supported by increased visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols.
“As we gradually transition into 2026, the FCT Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to sustaining peace, safety, and public order across the Territory.
“In furtherance of this mandate, the command has deployed 2,202 personnel across the FCT in line with the 2025 festive season operational order. This proactive deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free celebration for all residents and visitors.
“Police personnel have been strategically positioned at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces. These deployments are complemented by increased visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols,” the statement said.
She said identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties that could be used by criminal elements are being monitored and, where necessary, raided to prevent criminal activities.
Adeh added that tactical units, rapid response squads and patrol teams have been mobilised, with intensified vehicular and foot patrols across the FCT.
“Identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties that may be exploited by criminal elements are being closely monitored and, where necessary, raided to forestall criminal activities.
“Tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams are actively engaged, supported by intensified vehicular and foot patrols across the FCT.
“The command is also working in close collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure comprehensive and coordinated security coverage throughout the festive period,” she said.
Adeh further noted that Explosive Ordnance Disposal units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
She said Dantawaye urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines.
The latest deployment by the FCT Police Command is part of its annual efforts to secure worship centres, public spaces and transport corridors during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
