The Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to maritime infrastructure modernization and global competitiveness.
He received the Award of Excellence in Maritime Infrastructure Modernization & Global Competitiveness at the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Sunday.
Dantsoho’s achievements include driving efficiencies that led to a national trade surplus through unprecedented growth in exports.
Persecondnews reports that Dantsoho spearheaded the implementation of the National Single Window (NSW) through the Port Community System (PCS), attracting global investors to modernize Nigerian ports infrastructure and equipment.
Under Dantsoho’s leadership, Nigeria has gained prominence in the maritime community, securing the presidency of the Port Management Association of West Africa (PMAWCA) and vice-presidency of the International Association for Ports & Harbours (IAPH).
Nigeria is also seeking re-enlistment into the influential “Category C” of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The NPA has made significant strides in port modernization, with initiatives such as the digitization of the Apapa Port entry process thereby reducing congestion.
Other ongoing projects include the $1 billion reconstruction of Tincan Island Port Complex and the development of Snake Island Port, all in Lagos.
