A devastating multi-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of a father, mother, and their underage child.

A three-vehicle accident involving an Audi, a Toyota Camry, and a Toyota Corolla occurred early Wednesday morning.

The collision took place near the Lagos State Secretariat, on the road leading toward the accident-prone Otedola Bridge.

“The incident occurred when a heavily loaded speeding truck struck one of the vehicles from the rear,” said Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The impact caused a chain-reaction accident, leaving two other victims critically injured.

Emergency responders, including LASTMA, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), quickly arrived at the scene.

“Two critically injured victims trapped within the wreckage were carefully extricated and conveyed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical attention,” Bakare-Oki said.

The deceased family members were recovered and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for evacuation.

Bakare-Oki expressed sorrow over the “unbearable and irreplaceable loss of an entire family” and assured Lagosians that LASTMA remains committed to enhancing traffic surveillance and preventing similar tragedies.
