France has expressed solidarity with Nigeria in addressing the country’s security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the northern region.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced this after speaking with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, affirming that France will strengthen its partnership with Nigerian authorities.

“I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North,” Macron said.

“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations”.

Macron’s statement comes as Nigeria faces a wave of gunmen attacks and kidnappings, especially in the northern region, drawing international condemnation.

The Nigerian government has rejected claims of Christian persecution, insisting insecurity affects all religions.

“We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator,” Macron urged, emphasizing the need for collective action against terrorism.

The French government will cooperate with Nigeria to provide support for affected populations.

The US recently redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern for religious freedom violations, prompting the Nigerian government to seek diplomatic aid.

Persecondnews recalls that Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had met with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to discuss strategies to address the issue.
