The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced Bayelsa and Kaduna as the host states for the 2028 and 2030 National Sports Festivals respectively.

The Director of Press NSC, Dr. Kehinde Ajayi in a statement emailed to Persecondnews on Friday noted that this marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s sports development, with Bayelsa hosting the games for the first time and Kaduna hosting for the third time, after previously hosting in 1977 and 2009.

“We are glad that we have made the Sports festival attractive again, where states are now showing serious interest to host,” said NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade.

“This is a result of how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritized the sports sector under his administration”.

The NSC is committed to revamping and rebranding the National Sports Festival, aligning it with international standards.

“Part of our RHINSE agenda is to revamp and rebrand the National Sports festival in terms of structure, organization, and standardization, as it is obtained with major international sporting competitions like the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics games,” Olopade added.

Persecondnews recalls that the 2025 National Sports Festival was hosted by Ogun State and was adjudged the best ever.

The NSC said it is raising the bar with the 2026 Games in Enugu and the upcoming games in Bayelsa and Kaduna.

Meanwhile, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has expressed confidence in hosting the games, citing the state’s peaceful environment, improved security, and modern sports facilities.
