Night of Terror: Bandits Invade Sokoto Community, Abduct 9

579

The Tarah community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State suffered an attack by armed bandits on the night of Tuesday, November 18.

The raid resulted in the abduction of nine residents and the injury of one person, who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.

Such attacks underscore what has become a recurring pattern of violence and abductions targeting citizens across northern Nigeria.

While community youth quickly mobilized to engage the assailants—a move that local sources say mitigated the casualty count—the incident exposed a significant security lapse.

The attack took place only days after members of Tarah’s vigilante group had been redeployed to Katsina, leaving the area critically undefended.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Bakastine, highlighted the escalating risks on his X handle on Wednesday, November 19, noting that the recent attacks underscore the urgent need for coordinated action to protect vulnerable communities.

The incident has reignited concerns over mass abductions and killings in northern states, particularly as residents continue to face threats despite ongoing security operations.

The latest abduction happened barely two months after armed bandits abducted no fewer than 49 residents of Makuwana village in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Two persons drowned as they attempted to escape the attack.
