Nigeria’s World Cup Exit: Garba Lawal Calls for Super Eagles Overhaul

Following Nigeria’s heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo, former international Garba Lawal has strongly advocated a total revamp of the national team.

Lawal contended that the squad’s growth is being hindered by the presence of aging players.

The disappointing loss has fueled widespread criticism, with many fans and pundits agreeing with Lawal’s sentiment that this moment presents the perfect opportunity for a fresh start, urging the team to inject new talent and energy.

“Fresh legs should come into the Super Eagles because some of the current players are aging,” Lawal said on Brilla FM.

“If you want to bring in the fresh legs, it has to be now,” he emphasized, backing calls for an overhaul.

Persecondnews reports that as Nigeria shifts focus to the upcoming African Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles will face tough opponents in Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Lawal reiterated that the team must approach the tournament with humility and focus, noting that African football has become increasingly competitive.

“We have to earn every win,” Lawal said, backing coach Eric Sekou Chelle’s approach to selecting players based on form and commitment.

“It’s not just about big names; it’s about who can fight, maintain discipline, and give everything for the country.”

The Super Eagles, who had a 1-1 draw with the Congolese, lost 4-3 on penalties, ending their World Cup hopes for the second consecutive tournament.
