FCT Police Shed Light on Yerima’s Traffic Stop: Tinted Car, Concealed Number Plate

762

The FCT Police Command has clarified that Lt. Ahmed Yerima, a naval officer, was stopped by a police patrol team for driving a Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.

The command expressed surprise that the incident was misrepresented as an assassination attempt.

According to the police, officers approached the vehicle and requested identification and clarification on the concealments in a polite manner.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement:
“The occupant allegedly refused to identify himself, made several phone calls, and wound up his windows, declining to cooperate with the officers.

“A few minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the checkpoint and identified the driver as their colleague.

“They also took pictures and videos of the interaction before departing.

“Once the confirmation was made, the police allowed the vehicle to continue its journey, and the patrol team resumed routine operations without incident.

She said the Command was surprised that the encounter was later framed online as an attempted assassination, describing the narrative as malicious.

Earlier reports had claimed that Lt.Yerima, was the target of an assassination attempt at the NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.

The allegation, shared widely by Instagram blogger Mazitundeednut, suggested that the officer was attacked at the checkpoint.

The police, however, denied the claims, describing them as “entirely false and grossly misleading.”

FCT Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers performing their lawful duties.

He also issued a warning against spreading unverified claims that could cause public fear.
