The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced a nationwide Human Capital Development (HCD) drive aimed at equipping over 10,000 young Nigerians with high‑demand technical skills for the oil and gas industry.

The Oil and Gas Field Readiness Training Programme will run for two to three years, targeting critical gaps identified from recent expatriate‑quota reviews and consultations with key stakeholders such as PETAN, OPTS, PCTS, and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

The Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe said the initiative is a direct response to the NOGICD Act 2010, Section 10(1b), which prioritises Nigerian training and employment.

“The programme aligns with Section 10(1b) of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010, which mandates that Nigerians shall be given first consideration for training and employment in the work programme for which the Nigerian Content Plan was submitted by an industry operator,” Ogbe explained.

According to him, the training areas were chosen after extensive engagement with industry partners.

Eligible applicants must be Nigerian citizens under 35 years old, holding OND, HND, or BSc degrees in relevant disciplines such as Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, Gas, Welding, Metallurgy, Geology, Geophysics, Computer Science, or other science‑related fields.

Interested candidates are required to register through the NOGIC Joint Qualification System (JQS) portal.

The NCDMB will conduct a review after the initial two‑to‑three‑year rollout to assess whether the skill set needs tweaking, ensuring the programme stays in step with evolving industry demands.
