The Commonwealth Sport’s Executive Board has recommended Ahmedabad, India, as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.

India is set to host the Commonwealth Games for the second time, with the first being in 2010 in New Delhi.

The 2030 Games will commemorate 100 years since the inaugural event held in Hamilton, Canada.

According to a statement from Commonwealth Sport on Wednesday, “The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has today confirmed that it will recommend Amdavad, India, as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.”

India faced stiff competition from Nigeria, but the Commonwealth Sport has decided to “develop a strategy for supporting and accelerating” the Africa nation’s hosting ambitions for future Games, including consideration for 2034.

This decision reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting sports development in Africa.

The recommendation is a significant boost for Indian sports, with the country poised to showcase its world-class sporting and event capabilities.

The 2030 Games are expected to inspire India’s youth, strengthen international partnerships, and play a meaningful role in the nation’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
