Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will lead the country’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington, D.C. this week.

This development comes after Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, was ruled out due to illness.

“Wale Edun is indisposed,” confirmed Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy in a statement on Sunday.

Persecondnews reports that the Nigerian team will comprise Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance, alongside other key officials.

The meetings are expected to feature crucial discussions on global economic issues, development, and financial markets.

The World Bank’s annual meeting will include significant events such as the Development Committee Plenary Session and the International Monetary and Financial Committee meetings.

Other highlights include regional briefings, press conferences, and forums focused on international development and the global economy.

The World Bank recently released a report advising Nigeria to take key steps to boost its economy.

These include auditing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, increasing health taxes, and raising the Value-Added Tax (VAT).

The multilateral lender also urged Nigeria to ensure that recent macroeconomic reforms translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ living standards.
