The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is in mourning following the sudden death of its Commandant, Gbenga Agun, who reportedly slumped and died on Thursday.

The tragic incident occurred in Benin City during an award ceremony organized by the International Association of World Peace Advocates.

Agun, who had just been honoured, collapsed moments after delivering his goodwill message.

An unnamed eyewitness said: “The NSCDC Commandant arrived at the ceremony full of life… I observed he jerked intermittently in his voice while delivering his speech. After his address, he returned to his seat and began to convulse.”

He was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital on Airport Road but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The NSCDC Edo State Command spokesman, Efosa Ogbebor, has not yet issued an official statement.
