Newcastle United and Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alexander Isak, with the striker set to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Anfield.

The deal, worth £125 million, is expected to be finalized on deadline day, with Isak signing a six-year contract.

Discussions between the two clubs gained momentum on Sunday night, leading to a breakthrough agreement.

The Magpies had been open to exploring Isak’s exit after he expressed his desire to leave at the end of last season.

Despite efforts to persuade him to stay, Isak’s mind was made up, and Newcastle ultimately accepted that he would be leaving.

A senior delegation from Newcastle’s ownership, including co-owner Jamie Reuben and PIF chiefs, visited Isak’s house last Monday to make a final plea for him to stay.

However, Isak remained resolute in his decision to depart, and talks shifted towards facilitating his exit.

His agent, Vlado Lemic, played a key role in the negotiations.

Newcastle has already signed Germany striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69 million.

The Magpies are still pursuing Yoane Wissa, but Brentford’s asking price of £65 million remains a hurdle.

The club’s efforts to secure Wissa’s services are ongoing, with negotiations expected to continue in the coming days.

Isak is set to join Liverpool on a six-year deal, marking a significant addition to the Reds’ squad.

The striker’s departure from Newcastle was anticipated, given his clear desire to leave and pursue new challenges.

With the transfer expected to be finalized on deadline day, Isak will be ready to make his debut for Liverpool after the international break.
