Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, has apologized for a heated altercation with aviation officials at the Abuja airport on Tuesday.
While offering his apology, he maintained that he was wrongly accused of carrying alcohol on board the flight.
The incident, which reportedly disrupted flight operations, caused public outrage and led to official investigations.
The music star found himself at the center of a controversy regarding aviation safety and celebrity conduct.
In a statement personally signed by him and made available to Per Second News, K1 tendered an “unreserved apology” to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), ValueJet Airlines, and the Nigerian public.
He admitted the incident caused concern but insisted his actions had been misrepresented.
“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me.
“And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water — not alcohol, as wrongly alleged,” the statement said.
The veteran musician said he had passed through two security screenings with the flask empty and only filled it with water at the lounge area before walking to the tarmac.
“This fact can be verified by CCTV footage,” he added, stressing that he had not even boarded the aircraft when the incident occurred.
“However, I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols in any way.”
K1, whose career spans more than five decades, said his loyalty to Nigeria remains “unshaken” and that he would never knowingly damage the reputation he has built or the image of the country.
