The carriage of the old locomotive of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) detached on Thursday morning in Lagos, causing panic and temporarily halting traffic on the Sango-Ota-Lagos expressway.

The incident occurred at 8:00 a.m. in the Ladipo section of the road.

The train was traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos when the rear carriage suddenly separated.

Persecondnews reports that the locomotive, which provides shuttle service between Apapa in Lagos and Agbado-Sango/Ota in Ogun State, has been in a decrepit state for several years.

Eyewitnesses reported that the sudden detachment startled passengers and onlookers alike.

Fortunately, there were no casualties, and emergency responders quickly arrived to clear the scene and manage the resulting traffic congestion.

The Ladipo area is known for heavy traffic and a history of transport incidents, and this event has intensified existing safety concerns.

While officials have not yet commented on the cause of the mechanical failure, transportation experts are calling for an immediate investigation and improved maintenance standards for trains, especially in busy urban areas like Lagos.
