Nigeria Shines at African School Games in Algeria with Six Medals

Team Nigeria has delivered an outstanding performance at the inaugural African School Games in Algeria, securing six medals, including two gold and four silver, on day four of the games.

The athletes’ impressive feats were witnessed by Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, who expressed pride in their achievements.

Olopade attributed the athletes’ success to the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) initiative, saying, “A lot of these athletes are a product of our IJA initiative and they’ve continued to grow steadily, making the IJA initiative a success story we are proud of.”

In a statement on Tuesday by the Special Assistant on Media Office of the Director General of NSC Kola Daniel, he noted thatb Director General’s presence in Algeria was to support and encourage the young athletes, who are considered the future of Nigerian sports.

Persecondnews reports that the Girls’ 200m Final, Miracle Ezechukwu stormed to victory, claiming the gold medal, while her compatriot, Rosemary Chigozie Nwankwo, took the silver medal.

This feat was a repeat of their performances in the 100m final event, where Rosemary won gold and Miracle clinched silver. Perfect Faye delivered a solid performance in the Boys’ 200m Final, clinching the silver medal.

Mohammed Jimoh soared to new heights in the Boys’ High Jump, earning Nigeria another silver medal. The relay squads also made a significant impact, with the Girls’ Medley Relay Team claiming gold and the Boys’ Medley Relay Team taking silver.

The Girls’ Medley Relay Team, composed of Miracle Ezechukwu, Rosemary Chigozie Nwankwo, Eniololobo Rebecca, and Jecinter Lawrence Andrew, delivered a commanding performance to claim the gold medal.

The Boys’ Medley Relay Team, comprising Emmanuel Akolo, Mohammed Jimoh, Perfect Faye, and Jesulayomi Ogundijo, fought hard to take silver, showcasing the depth and synergy within the teams.
