The Umueri community in Ogbunike, Anambra State, has been rocked by the brutal murder of a pregnant professional nurse and the subsequent sale of her body parts by traffickers.

In a swift operation, police have apprehended 24-year-old Somtochukwu Nwafor in connection with the horrific crime.

The Anambra State Police Command announced on Thursday that the primary suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, is still at large.

He allegedly lured the nurse to his home under the guise of seeking medical attention, then murdered her and buried her mutilated remains in a soakaway pit.

Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the developments, revealing that some of the victim’s body parts were later sold to a native doctor in the area.

Leveraging intelligence from Umueri residents, the police arrested Nwafor, leading to the recovery of suspected human remains from a shrine linked to the incident.

According to Ikenga, Nwafor confessed to being Elobisi’s girlfriend and admitted to being called to clean up bloodstains after the murder and implicated her boyfriend in selling the body parts to various “evil native doctors.”

Persecondnews gathered from police that preliminary investigations suggest the victim, a trained nurse, was enticed to the murderer’s house under false pretenses.

Based on information provided by Nwafor, State Criminal Investigation Department operatives raided the shrine of native doctor Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile in Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

They discovered suspected human body parts concealed in cellophane bags.

Meanwhile, the police command said it has launched a comprehensive manhunt for the prime suspect, Elobisi, as well as anyone involved in receiving or collaborating in this horrific crime.

He urged anyone with useful information to come forward, assuring them that their identities would be protected.
