President Bola Tinubu has made key appointments for the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, in Rivers state.
Prof. Chinedu Mmom has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor, while Prof. Don Mon Baridam will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
According to a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the appointments mark a significant milestone in the establishment of the new university.
The governing council comprise notable individuals from different regions, including Emmanuel Onoja (North-Central), Hamid Adekunle (South-West), Chima Oji (South-East), and Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West).
Other key appointments include Mpigi Monday Douglas as Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie as Bursar, and Saghanen Ntogo as Librarian.
Baridam, a specialist in organizational behavior, brings a wealth of experience to his new role and has previously taught at the University of Port Harcourt, and his expertise will be invaluable in shaping the university’s direction.
Mmom, the new Vice-Chancellor, is a seasoned academic with a background in geography and environmental management.
As a former Commissioner for Education in Rivers state, Mmom is well-equipped to lead the new university.
The establishment of the university is a significant step towards addressing environmental justice and expanding educational opportunities in the Niger Delta region.
Persecondnews recalls that President Tinubu had in February 2025 signed the bill establishing the university, highlighting its potential to drive positive change in the region.
