In a grand gesture of appreciation, President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours and monetary gifts on the victorious Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team.

Each of the 24 players, who secured Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, will receive a cash reward of $100,000 and a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment.

Members of the team’s technical crew will also receive $50,000 each.

The Super Falcons made history on Saturday by defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final, coming from two goals down to secure the continental crown.

The team’s dramatic comeback victory showcased grit and brilliance, earning them the admiration of the nation.

President Tinubu’s gesture is seen as a strong boost for women’s sports in Nigeria.

The conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on each player is a testament to the team’s dedication and hard work.

The President’s wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, also warmly received the team before their meeting with the President.

The team’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title is a testament to their excellence and commitment to Nigerian football.

This generous reward is not the first time the Nigerian government has recognized the Super Falcons’ achievements.

In 2023, First Lady Remi Tinubu gifted the team $10,000 each for their impressive performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
