The FCT Police Command has dealt a blow against cultism, busting a group of cultists terrorizing residents of Bakassi Yimitu Village in the Apo-Waru area.

On Thursday, July 24, the command’s Joint Task Force, working with local vigilantes and hunters, launched a coordinated operation in the area.

This led to the arrest of 19 suspected cultists after an exchange of gunfire.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, and sent to Persecondnews on Friday, the suspected cultists opened fire upon encountering security personnel, leading to a gun duel.

The statement reads: “The operation resulted in the arrest and detention of 19 suspects at the Waru Police Outstation, while others escaped with varying degrees of injury.

“Tragically, one police officer and a local vigilante suffered serious injuries during the operation and were promptly rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

“Shortly after, the escaped assailants regrouped, mobilised, and launched an attack on the Waru Police Outstation in an attempt to free their detained accomplices, vandalising parts of the facility, three patrol Hilux vehicles, and damaging six privately owned cars within the premises.

“The miscreants were repelled. Reinforcements were swiftly deployed to the scene, and normalcy has since been restored.

“Police Commissioner Ajao S. Adewale, stated emphatically that the Command will not rest until other members of the syndicate at large are arrested and brought to book. He strongly condemns the attacks, warning that any assault on police personnel or formations will attract the full wrath of the law.

“The FCT Police Command urges residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities via:
