Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a heartfelt tribute to his Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash on Thursday.

Jota, 28, was traveling in a Lamborghini with his younger brother Andre, 26, when the vehicle crashed and burst into flames in Northern Spain.

Ronaldo’s emotional post on social media captured the shock and sadness felt by the football community.

“It doesn’t make sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married,” Ronaldo said.

“To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them.”

Ronaldo’s tribute highlighted the close bond between the two players, who had recently celebrated a major victory together.

“Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you,” Ronaldo added.

The crash is believed to have been caused by a tyre blowout while overtaking on the A-52 highway.

The supercar came off the road, rolled, and caught fire, killing both brothers.

Emergency services were called, but unfortunately, they could not be saved.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin also paid tribute to Jota, saying, “Just three weeks ago, I had the honour of presenting Diogo Jota with a medal after the UEFA Nations League final – a moment of joy, pride, and celebration that will now forever be burned in memory with sorrow.”

Ceferin described Jota as a player with “passion, energy and spirit on the field” who inspired everyone around him.

Jota’s death has sent shockwaves through the football world, with many players and officials paying tribute to his talent and dedication.
