For the second time, the Senate has extended the implementation of the capital components of the 2024 budget to December 31, 2025.
Persecondnews recalls that this is the second time the implementation of the projects would be extended through the amendment of the Appropriation Act.
The resolution for the extension was adopted at the plenary on Tuesday, presided over by Sen. Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President.
Leading the debate, Sen. Olamilekan Adeola, the Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, said the extension was necessary to allow the federal government to complete ongoing projects as captured in the budget.
He said the government did not have enough resources to execute the projects and urged the Senate to support the extension of the 2024 budget to avoid abandoned projects.
The capital component of the 2024 budget was first extended from December 31, 2024 to June 30, 2025.
