Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has taken a significant step forward, with the 22-year-old playmaker reportedly completing the first part of his medical at a Manchester hospital.
According to Sky Germany, Wirtz’s medical checks proceeded without any issues, and the second part of the medical will take place on Friday.
Wirtz is expected to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool, with the Reds agreeing to pay a fee worth £116m, including a £100m base fee guaranteed.
This deal would make him the most expensive British transfer in history, surpassing Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.
The talented playmaker will join former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who completed his own move to Liverpool earlier this month.
Wirtz and Frimpong shared a photo of themselves on a boat off the coast of Montenegro this week, and they are likely to link up on the pitch soon.
The duo won a domestic double under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24 and added the German Super Cup to their collection last season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also close to signing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, with the defender’s father and agent, Sebastijan, claiming that a move is a “done deal.”
“It’s only Liverpool for us, and we’re not going anywhere else, and we won’t talk to other clubs,” said Sebastijan.
“Everything is done between us (personal terms); we just need to sort out some details, but it’s basically a done deal.”
The Reds are believed to be negotiating a fee of around £45m with Bournemouth for Kerkez’s transfer.
With Wirtz and Kerkez set to join the team, Liverpool are shaping up to have a busy summer transfer window.
