In a renewed push to reform Nigeria’s ailing power sector, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a Performance Improvement Plan/Power Sector Recovery Operation (PIP/PSRO) Committee.

The initiative, mandated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), is a core component of efforts to restore operational efficiency and financial sustainability across the power value chain.

The PIP/PSRO programne seeks to identify and address key bottlenecks within the transmission network, enhance system reliability, and reduce energy losses through strategic upgrades, improved maintenance, and enhanced operational practices.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee, TCN’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, noted that the committee’s establishment is in line with NERC’s directive and the PSRO-AF Operational Manual.

He charged members to ensure robust coordination, stakeholder collaboration, and effective monitoring and reporting of projects tied to the programme.

“The PIP/PSRO is central to our commitment to sector recovery. The work ahead is critical—not just for TCN, but for the entire power sector,” Abdulaziz said.

Also speaking, Engr. Olugbenga Ajiboye, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), said the committee would establish clear performance benchmarks and accountability measures to promote transparency and efficiency.

The Committee’s Chairman, Engr. Ali Sharafai, who also serves as TCN’s General Manager of Transmission Services, pledged the team’s readiness to uphold regulatory and international standards in delivering a more stable and investment-friendly transmission grid.

The launch of the committee is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and aligning power sector reform efforts with national development goals.
