Gateway Games: Returning 22 Kano Contingent Members Feared Dead in Auto Crash

Tragedy struck members of the Kano State delegation returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State, tagged “Gateway Games”, as their vehicle was involved in a fatal accident.

The bus, carrying 35 passengers, reportedly plunged from a bridge in the Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.

A survivor, Ado Salisu Gama, confirmed that several of his colleagues died at the scene, while others were rushed to Kura General Hospital.

Speaking from the hospital on Saturday morning, a visibly shaken Salisu stated: “22 people have been confirmed dead at Dakatsalle bridge, just before Kura. The driver too is dead. As I speak with you, one other member just died.”

Salisu also noted that other injured members of the delegation are currently receiving care at the hospital.

The deceased include athletes, journalists, medical personnel, and administrators.

Details are still emerging regarding the accident, which involved a team that had won 29 medals at the National Sports Festival.
