The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has disowned a fake AI-generated video circulating on social media, featuring a cloned voice of its Group CEO, Mr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari, promoting a fictitious poverty alleviation scheme.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer on NNPC Ltd, Mr. Olufemi Soneye,  obtained by Persecondnews, the company clarified that it has no such investment initiative.

“The company has no such investment initiative,” Soneye said, urging the public to disregard the video.

The video was originally shared by an account named Mensageiro de Cristo on Facebook.

“NNPC Ltd has warned the perpetrators to cease their fraudulent actions or face legal consequences,” it said.

The statement indicated that the company is taking steps to address the situation and protect the public from falling victim to the scam.

“The public is advised to be cautious and verify information before investing in any scheme.

“NNPC Ltd’s prompt response aims to prevent further dissemination of the fake video and protect the company’s reputation,” it further stated.
