President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received newly defected Delta State Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The meeting marks the governor’s first encounter with the President since his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on April 23.

Oborevwori’s decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is being touted as a significant shift in Delta’s political landscape.

Persecondnews reports that the governor’s defection to APC was not an isolated incident, as his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, along with Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, commissioners, local government chairmen, and key grassroots structures, also joined the APC.

Okowa was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

This wave of defections has trimmed the PDP’s governorship map to 10 states and weakened their stronghold in the South-South region.

The defection of the governor and other prominent figures from PDP to APC mirrors similar realignments in Rivers and Cross River states.

This development has generated national attention and may have implications for the political landscape of the region.
