As controversy rages on over the dispute between Nigerian Fuji music legends, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1, has finally broken his silence on why he is deeply upset with his longtime colleague, Ayinla Kollington.
In a revealing interview with Agbaletu TV, K1 expressed disappointment over what he described as betrayal during one of the most difficult moments of his life—the loss of his mother.
According to him, Kollington never reached out in person or showed any form of condolence, despite being in Nigeria and in good health at the time.
“I am so angry with Alhaji Kollington because he never showed up to offer his condolences when I lost my mum,” K1 said in the emotional interview.
“When his own mother passed, I stood by him. I brought dignitaries to honour her memory, and I covered all the burial expenses—100 per cent. After all that, this is how he paid me back?”
The veteran singer went on to dismiss Kollington’s explanation that he had tried to call him but got no response.
“Am I not supposed to be angry?” he asked. “He said he called me and I didn’t pick. Is that enough reason not to come see me? He’s hale and hearty. What could have truly happened?”
The revelation has reignited interest in past tensions surrounding K1, including allegations made by his former drummer, Kunle Ayanlowo, just a year ago.
Kunle had accused the Fuji maestro of treating him and other band members like slaves during their time together.
He went as far as blaming K1 for worsening his health condition, citing untreated ulcer pains and years of emotional distress.
Kunle’s accusations sparked a wave of reactions on social media, especially after he warned that if anything happened to him, the public should hold K1 accountable.
In response, K1 denied the claims, calling them outright lies and a calculated attempt to tarnish his image.
He insisted that he gave Kunle a lifeline when he had nothing.
“Kunle is just chasing money and happiness he never found. After 32 years of working, he has nothing to show for it, and now he’s trying to bring me down with him,” K1 had stated in a diss track that followed the public fallout.
Refusing to back down, Kunle later claimed that K1 once slept with his woman in Paris—an accusation that further fueled the scandal.
He also pushed back against K1’s dismissal of his education level, saying, “You said I can’t speak or write English, so how then did I communicate with white people abroad?”
