Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up about a surprising rumour regarding his sexuality, offering a refreshingly candid and humorous take on the experience that caught many off guard.

In a recent interview, Arukwe revealed how he first heard whispers claiming he was gay—a rumour that initially stunned him but eventually left him amused.

“They said that I was gay, and that shocked me to my balls,” he said with a laugh.

“I was excited too. Because I heard that when they start saying those kinds of things about you, you’re about to blow (become famous). So I thought to myself, ‘this must be it.’”

His reaction has been praised by fans for its lightheartedness and maturity, showing his ability to rise above public speculation without losing his sense of humour.

But Arukwe didn’t stop there. While addressing the rumour, he took the opportunity to voice his support for the LGBTQ+ community, making it clear that he holds no prejudice.

“I have a lot of gay friends—they are my people—and I know their sexuality,” he said. “I love them to death. I have nothing against them whatsoever.”

However, the actor was firm in asserting his own identity. “I’m not going to agree to what I’m not just to please anyone,” he added. “For me, let God judge.”

Arukwe’s comments have resonated widely, striking a balance between affirming his personal truth and extending empathy to a community that often faces unwarranted scrutiny and discrimination.

Known for his versatility and commanding presence on screen, Arukwe has quietly built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most compelling performers.
