The devastating multi-storey building collapse which occurred on Saturday morning at Oremeta Street, Ojodu-Berger on the outskirts of Lagos, has claimed the lives of five indiviaduals.

Disclosing this, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said 13 adults have been successfully rescued from the rubble.

“Tragically, five adults have been confirmed dead in the collapsed building, with their bodies recovered and transferred to the morgue for identification and further processing,” he said in a statement obtained by Persecondnews on Sunday.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the survivors had already been given preliminary care at the scene before being transferred to appropriate health facilities for further treatment.

He assured the public that all first responders remained on-site, working tirelessly to continue with the search and rescue efforts.

The operation, which has been ongoing throughout the morning, aims to ensure no other victims are trapped beneath the debris, he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu assured that updates would be provided as the evacuation progresses, urging residents to avoid the area to facilitate the emergency response efforts.

“LASEMA, in conjunction with other agencies, is working to mitigate the impact and provide assistance to those affected.”
