Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has categorically denied social media rumours that he collapsed last week, dismissing it as a desperate attempt by some individuals to score cheap political points.
Persecondnews recalls that a rumour circulated last weekend, claiming that the Minister had collapsed, suffered a stroke, and was subsequently flown abroad for medical treatment.
Speaking on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the territory, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike said: “I do not want to give credence to people who are only interested in spreading rumors.
“First of all, I am a human being, not a ghost. If someone collapses, it is a human being that collapses, not a ghost. Unfortunately, I did not collapse.”
The minister said he has remained diligent in his duties, highlighting his recent participation in various public engagements, including leading Abuja residents to the Presidential Villa and attending the President’s Iftar event.
He said: “There was never a time I collapsed. There was never a time anybody took me anywhere for medical attention. People who spread such rumours should focus on reality.”
Wike accused his political detractors of fabricating the collapse story to divert attention from the country’s real issues, sarcastically remarking, “I will sign their condolences”.
Despite the controversy, Wike confirmed that several key infrastructure projects in the FCT are progressing smoothly and are on track to be inaugurated as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary activities.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far, noting that contractors are adhering to their timelines and meeting their deadlines.
“I am very, very impressed with what I have seen. The contractors have confidence in us, and we are not lagging behind in terms of funding.”
Wike emphasized the importance of residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory fulfilling their tax obligations, pointing out that taxpayer funds are directly responsible for the ongoing projects in the area.
He said: “As you can see, we are putting taxpayer money to work. Those who are supposed to pay their taxes should do so.
“We will not be distracted. Our focus remains on delivering world-class projects that will benefit every resident of Abuja.”
With the World Championships and other major international events on the horizon, Wike has given assurances that critical projects in Abuja will be completed on schedule, solidifying the city’s position as a model capital city in Africa.
