A tragic incident occurred at a ceramics company in Igbesa, Ogun State, where Police Inspector Ajele Oloyede, who was stationed as a security detail officer, shot himself.

Unfortunately, Inspector Oloyede succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Persecondnews reports.

According to reports, the incident took place on Thursday, with details emerging on Sunday.

The Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Omolola Odutola, revealed that another officer, Tolorunloju Stephen from the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, discovered the incident upon returning from Ikeja about 1:20 p.m.

Upon entering the security office, Officer Tolorunloju Stephen found Inspector Ajele Oloyede resting his head on a table, appearing to be resting.

When Stephen inquired about Oloyede’s well-being, the inspector responded that he was fine, showing no signs of distress.

However, the situation took a tragic turn moments later.

After Stephen placed his bag and pistol on the table, he stepped into the restroom, leaving Oloyede alone. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, shattering the calm atmosphere.

Odutola said Stephen allegedly found Oloyede lying in the pool of his blood.

“With the help of private security personnel, the wounded officer was immediately taken to Ota General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

“Police officers visited the scene, and the deceased’s pistol was recovered,” she said.

His body has been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ota, for autopsy.

The case would be transferred to the State Criminal and Investigations Department at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
