Following the passing away of former Deputy Chief Whip Adewunmi Onanuga, the House of Representatives has appointed Rep. Ibrahim Isiaka (APC, Ogun) as replacement.
Onanuga who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, died on January 15, following a brief illness.
Persecondnews reports that Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary session on Tuesday, announced his appointment after consultations with the caucus majority party, the All Progressives Congress(APC).
The House confirmed this in a series of posts on X on Tuesday.
“Following consultations with the @OfficialAPCNg Caucus and other stakeholders from the South West, the Leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the @HouseNGR,” the post stated.
Born on July 6, 1966, Isiaka has an impressive academic record, boasting an MBA from the University of Calabar, a postgraduate diploma from the University of Uyo, and a Higher National Diploma from Ogun State Polytechnic.
He has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, having worked with ExxonMobil and other companies in various capacities, including project management and construction supervision.
Isiaka has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2015, representing the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency.
He has served as the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development and was a member of various other committees, including Petroleum (Upstream), Health, and Works.
The lawmaker has received several awards and recognition for his work, including the most outstanding SSA in Ogun State in 2013 and the Best Project Execution Recognition from ExxonMobil in 2011.
