President Bola Tinubu has announced changes in the leadership positions of some federal universities.
A statement issued on Thursday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy said the changes aim to revitalise the country’s higher education system through dynamic leadership and accountability.
At the Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja), President Tinubu dissolved the governing council and relieved Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi of her duties as Vice-Chancellor.
Sen. Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of the university, while Prof. Lar Patricia Manko will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor for a six-month term.
Similar changes have been made at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where Prof. Polycarp Emeka Chigbu has been removed as Acting Vice-Chancellor to be replaced by Prof. Oguejiofu T. Ujam for an interim period of six months.
Additionally, retired Gen. Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Uyo, while Mr. Olubunmi Kayode Ojo is the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN.
Other appointments include Prof. Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi as Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, Sen. Sani Stores as Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, and Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi as Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.
According to President Tinubu, these changes reflect his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and academic excellence within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
