A high-powered team from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has arrived in Bayelsa to finalize plans for the multi-billion dollar Agge deep seaport project.
This project is expected to revolutionize maritime infrastructure in Nigeria, easing congestion at the country’s ports and promoting socioeconomic activities in the region.
The Agge deep seaport project is a joint public-private partnership (PPP) initiative between the Bayelsa State Government, the Federal Government, and a major private investor.
According to Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the government is committed to improving port infrastructure and connectivity, facilitating the development of critical maritime infrastructure in the country.
Oyetola noted that the project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at creating an enabling environment for innovation, economic growth, and infrastructural development.
“Improving ports’ infrastructure in the country is crucial to positioning Nigeria as a leader among maritime nations.” With the Agge deep seaport project, Bayelsa is poised to become a major player in Nigeria’s maritime economy.”
The proposed deep seaport is expected to create jobs, attract investments, and make Bayelsa a major transport hub for the North and South Eastern parts of the country.
Bayelsa Gov. Douye Diri had solicited the support of the Federal Government towards the project, and Oyetola assured that the government would explore the PPP approach to ensure its completion.
The ministry is working to attract more private sector investments and foreign direct investment into developing Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure.
