Tinubu Signs Bill Establishing Environment and Technology University, Ogoni, Rivers

President Bola Tinubu has made history by signing into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State.

This groundbreaking move marks a significant milestone in the region’s educational and environmental development.

The signing ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, solidifying the administration’s commitment to addressing historical injustices and promoting inclusive national development

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Sen. Mpigi Barinada, the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Education.

The Presidency hailed the move as “a promise kept by President Tinubu,” affirming his dedication to fulfilling the educational and environmental aspirations of the Ogoni people.

The new university is expected to play a critical role in environmental research, technology advancement, and human capital development in the region.

Barinada, a strong advocate of the university, praised the president’s decision, saying, “This is a landmark achievement for the people of Ogoni.

“It is not just about education; it is about empowering our youths and equipping them with the knowledge to restore our land and build a sustainable future.”

The Ogoni people, who have faced decades of environmental and socio-economic challenges, see the establishment of the university as a crucial step towards rehabilitation and development.

With this institution, experts believe that future generations will have the tools to address environmental injustices and harness technology for regional growth.

Tinubu noted the significance of the university, stating that it marks a “significant milestone in our journey towards environmental justice, education, and sustainable development”.

He also commended the National Assembly for passing the bill and thanked the Ogoni delegation for their steadfast advocacy.
