Varsity professor assassinated in his home

 Tragedy struck in Umueji, Asaba, the Delta State capital, when Prof. Emeka Chukwuma, a 56-year-old lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, was brutally murdered by gunmen in his own home.
The professor had only just arrived in his hometown on Friday, looking forward to a relaxing weekend, when the assailants struck.
A source said: “Prof. Emeka Chukwuma was assassinated in Asaba on Friday night. He is a lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka, Anwai campus but later went back to the Abraka campus after the conversion of Anwai campus to Dennis Osadebey University.
“Prof Chukwuma usually comes home every weekend, it is unfortunate that he came back yesterday for his usual weekend and was assassinated in his place at St. Bridges area of Umueji quarter, in Asaba.
“As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe, we are confused over the situation.”
Confirming the incident, the state police command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe said the police have launched a man-hunt for the assassins with a view to bringing them to justice.
“Yes, it is confirmed, they have reported the matter to the police, and we are looking into the incident,” he said.
