Mohbad’s mother, Yomi Fabiyi clash over allegations against late singer’s brother

A heated exchange on Wednesday ensued between Mrs. Abosede Aloba, the mother of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and actor Yomi Fabiyi.

The contention centres around allegations involving Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura.

Fabiyi had on Friday, December 13, 2024, filed a petition with the Lagos State Police Command, alleging that Adura initiated an Instagram chat claiming to possess video evidence that reveals the cause of Mohbad’s death.

According to Fabiyi, Adura demanded N3 million in Bitcoin as payment for the video.

Fabiyi shared the details of the petition on his social media accounts, sparking public attention.

In response, Adura vehemently denied the accusations, explaining that the conversation stemmed from a friend to whom he had sold his phone.

He distanced himself from the chat and asserted his innocence.

At a world news conference held on Wednesday at the Radisson Blu in Ikeja, Lagos, Fabiyi doubled down on his claim, stating that the message originated from Adura and accusing him of having knowledge about Mohbad’s death.

He emphasized his belief in the authenticity of the chat and its implications.

Reacting to the allegations, Mrs. Aloba defended her son, asserting his innocence and expressing her distress over the situation.

She stated that Adura had no involvement in his brother’s death and criticised Fabiyi for attempting to implicate him.

“They killed Mohbad, and now you want to unjustly accuse his brother. Adura knows nothing about his death. I have already lost Mohbad, my precious gift, and I won’t let anyone take Adura too,” Mrs. Aloba declared emotionally.

She further disclosed that another individual, Damola, was responsible for using Adura’s details to contact Fabiyi.

“Damola admitted to me that he sent the message using Adura’s phone. He apologised and said he never intended for the situation to escalate this way,” she revealed.

Mrs. Aloba accused Fabiyi of exploiting her family’s tragedy for personal gain.

“Those who use my son’s death for their benefit, I leave them to God. Adura has denied these allegations repeatedly, yet you still held this press conference to tarnish his image,” she added.

Fabiyi, however, maintained his stance, stating that the content of the message was his primary concern, not necessarily the sender.

“It came from Adura’s handle, and I cannot ignore it. If it wasn’t him, who sent the message? Should I remain silent when a claim like this surfaces?” Fabiyi asked.

He added: “I mean no harm to Mohbad or Adura. My only interest is justice. If the claim in the message is genuine, I cannot pretend it doesn’t exist.”

Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023.

Persecondnews recalls that his sudden demise triggered widespread speculation and led to an extensive investigation by the Lagos State Police Command, which formed a 13-man special investigative team to probe the circumstances.

In the wake of his death, prominent figures such as Naira Marley and controversial socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, were arrested.

Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
