A suspected bomb explosion occurred at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council, on January 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00am.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident, which was reported through a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, Persecondnews reports.
Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa.
The area was cordoned off to ensure resident safety and facilitate investigations.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, FCT command spokeswoman, preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina visited the school proprietor, Adamu Ashimu, with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Tragically, two of the men died in the explosion while handling the IED on the school veranda.
A third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment under police guard.
The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the IED explosion, recovering remnants of the device.
The school proprietor, Adamu Ashimu, has been taken into custody for questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or items to the authorities using the following emergency numbers: 0806 158 1938, 0803 200 3913, 0802 894 0883, 0705 733 7653, CRU: 0810 731 4192 and PCB: 0902 222 2352.
The police assured the public of their commitment to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the explosion and maintaining peace in the area.
