Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, delivered a dominant performance, thrashing their counterparts from Niger Republic 9-0 in the WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup on Thursday in Ghana.
The Flamingos started strongly, with Aishat Animashaun scoring in the fifth minute, followed by a stunning 35-yard screamer from Shakirat Moshood in the 17th minute.
Moshood continued her impressive form, scoring her second and Nigeria’s third goal in the 23rd minute, assisted by Animashaun. Janet Akekoromowei then made it four with a close-range finish in the 33rd minute.
Akekoromowei went on to score a hat trick, netting her second and third goals in the 42nd and 43rd minutes, respectively.
Moshood also achieved a hat trick, scoring her third goal in the 45th minute to make it 7-0 at halftime.
She continued to impress in the second half, scoring her fourth goal in the 59th minute.
Peace Effiong added the final goal in the 79th minute, sealing a resounding 9-0 victory for the Flamingos.
The Flamingos will face their next challenge on Monday when they take on Cote d’Ivoire in the WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup.
